Role Overview

Plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, depreciation, revenue recognition, and various special analyses
  • Responsible for the monthly closing, reporting and analysis, in accordance with GAAP, of the Company’s performance. This includes managing close activities, efficiently and accurately reporting business performance relative to plans and budgets, analyzing trends and metrics, reporting on variances, identifying risks, opportunities, and contingency plans, and communicating results to senior leadership, Board & external stakeholders.
  • Cash Management responsibilities to include review and processing of all cash transfers and disbursements
  • Lead overall financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for the Company. This includes understanding and validating business development strategies, ensuring that the financial plan is linked to the strategy, and effectively communicating the financial aspects of the plan to the senior leadership group and Board.
  • Create and update accurate forecasts throughout the year.
  • Monitor and maintain sufficient cash balances and manage line of credit. This includes managing, negotiating, and maintain banking relationships.
  • Manage and maintain all relationships with external public accountants regarding advisory services, audit, tax preparation and tax filings. Ensure tax filing compliance, DCAA compliance, and audit compliance.
  • Assess all individuals and service providers as well as current policies, procedures, and processes, and if appropriate, make the necessary adjustments organizationally and functionally to further streamline and improve the Company’s finance and accounting functions.
  • Team with Capture/Business Development organization to provide financial support as needed.
  • Policies & Procedures: Ensures that all financial policies and procedures are being followed; Implement new policies and procedures to help identify, resolve, and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate
  • Additional duties as needed

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 10+ years of increasing experience in GovCon accounting/finance role. Should include direct performance and/or oversight of all of the above activities with relevant success stories in each.
  • Experience managing cash and banking relationships in a privately held company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software, preferably Quickbooks Desktop, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Attention to detail
